If you have a few hours to spare, here's a simple route to see the best of Salamanca without wasting time:
- 📍 Plaza Mayor
- 📍 Casa de las Conchas
- 📍 Universidad de Salamanca
- 📍 Catedrales (Vieja y Nueva)
- 📍 Huerto de Calixto y Melibea
- 📍 Puente Romano
Obligatory starting point. Baroque, impressive, and perfect for a coffee while the city wakes up.
A building covered in shells with a library inside. Look for the different shell (they say there's treasure inside... but no one has found it).
Founded in 1218, one of the oldest in Europe. Mandatory mission: find the frog on the façade without help. If someone points it out to you, luck doesn't count.
Two for the price of one. The New Cathedral is imposing, but the Old Cathedral hides the most spectacular altarpiece in Salamanca. And the astronaut on the façade? A modern whim of 20th-century restoration.
Small garden overlooking the river, ideal for relaxing for a while (and if you come here romantically, perfect for a couple's photo).
More than 2,000 years of history. It crosses the Tormes River and overlooks Salamanca from afar. If the day is clear, this is one of the best spots for photos.
If you have time to spare, you can add a stop at the Casa Lis (a spectacular Art Deco museum) or climb the Torres de la Clerecía to see the city from above.

Gastronomic tour of Salamanca
For a pre-wedding snack
- Casa Paca (Plaza del Peso, 10): A classic that does not disappoint. Try the torreznos or morros de ternera if you're feeling brave.
- Mesón Cervantes (Calle Cervantes, 12): Their patatas meneás and farinato are local heritage not declared by UNESCO but they should.
- La Cocina de Toño (Calle Meléndez, 22): Here the croquettes are almost as good as the ones we'll make at home (wink, wink).
- Café Novelty (Plaza Mayor): The oldest café in Salamanca. Perfect for a vermouth watching people passing by and pretending to be intellectuals.
For a romantic dinner
- Life & Food (Calle Van Dyck, 29): Unpretentious signature cuisine with local produce. Their braised cheeks will make you cry (with happiness).
- El Laurel (Calle Gran Vía, 80): To impress your companion with a view of the illuminated Cathedral. Book early or you'll be left wanting more.
- Baroque Restaurant (Plaza del Poeta Iglesias): Fusion that works and presentation for Instagram. Their tuna tartar is worthy of a stag or hen party.
To recharge your batteries after the party
- Breakfast at La Tahona (Calle Zamora): For when you need an IV coffee and toast with oil to recover.
- Brunch at The Doctor Cocktail (Plaza San Justo): For the hungover who wake up at lunchtime. Their Sunday brunch will save your dignity.
Practical tips
- The weather in October in Salamanca can be fickle. Bring something warm for the evening even if it's hot during the day.
- The Villamayor stone (of which Salamanca is built) glows golden at sunset. Don't miss this magical moment with your camera.
- If you get lost, look for the Cathedral. You can see its tower from any point and it will serve as a reference point.
- University students in Salamanca have peculiar traditions. If you see someone painting their name with bull's blood on the wall... it's normal.
- Don't leave without trying an hornazo, a farinato and some perronillas. Your palate deserves to know the local flavours.
We look forward to seeing you in Salamanca to celebrate this special day together!
